Why Internet Safety for ECMS Students, Parents, and Teachers?
This resource aims at internet safety and appropriate internet use at school and at home for students, parents, and teachers. With the rigor of today’s academics, the social-emotional aspects of child development can often be overlooked within the school setting. This web resource is a place where parents can find up to date information on the latest risks of youth on the internet. This site is a place for students to learn how to interact with others appropriately online and keep their identity protected. It is also a place where they can report cyber-bullying, regarding themselves and others. The last intention is that teachers have a simplified resources to use in their classrooms when teaching internet safety and proper device usage.
ISTE Standards for Students
According to the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE), students need to meet technology standards to thrive in a digitally enhanced society. Many of the standards are met organically within the content classroom, but one standard needs more individual attention: Digital Citizenship. ISTE defines digital citizenship as students ability to "recognize the rights, responsibilities and opportunities of living, learning and working in an interconnected digital world, and they act and model in ways that are safe, legal and ethical" (ISTE Standards for Students | ISTE, 2016).
